Editing with different formats/codecs on the same timeline

Im editing a project on Final cut that was shot in different formats. I did not do to the importing so the codecs/formats are what they are. I have some HD 1920x1080 footage shot on a Cannon 5D. It's codec is H.264 @30fps. I have some footage shot on a Pani HVX-200a at 29.97fps with a codec of DVCPROHD 720p60. And then I have footage shot on the HVX but onto DV tape with a codec of DV/DVCPRO-NTSC @ 29.97fps at a 720x480 frame size.

I am trying to create one timeline/one final product. What should I set my sequence preset to? What should my export setting be in compressor? And if I mix formats on the timeline and export them out the same codec what issues do I face in the end?

Or would it be best to convert all of these to one format/codec and then place it on the timeline and export it under the same format as well.

The final clip will preferably be in H.264 if that helps at all.

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.

thanks

H.264 doesn't work worth a damn in FCP. Transcode to Pro Res.

What version of FCP are you running?

Mac Pro?

Final clip is H.264... what is the delivery for? HD, DVD, Web?

After you convert the Canon footage, choose a ProRes sequence setting to edit this all in. What do you have most of? What do you need to deliver? That should point you towards what pixel dimension to choose, 1080, 720 or 480.

Shane or whoever can answer this:

If the destination is the web would it be best to go with the smallest frame size as the sequence setting? (if hypothetically it's 1/3 of the footage)

I was going to answer choose whatever footage you plan to use the most of, but then wondered if it is primarily for web or portable device is it best to choose the smallest instead so the SD footage doesn't have to be scaled up or be smaller on an already small player?

Im running 6.0.6 on a mac pro and the delivery is for web....im going to post it on vimeo so shooting for the best quality. The footage I have most of is DVCPROHD with the h.264 second and the DV/DVCPRO in third.

Think I should convert all to pro-res?
