im not sure of the complete difference between 60i and 60p, but i know that 60p comes out way smoother and slow mo clips comes out really reallly clear. but putting interlaced and progressive asside, when you put a clip filmed in 60 frames in 50% speed, wouldnt there be no duplicated frames? doesnt that make sense? whenever i do that it comes out just like i filmed it at 30 and frames are duplicated.

would someone care to explain the logic behind this, or do i jsut have the wrong settings on my final cut pro?

60i doesn't capture 60 frames a second, it is 60 fields per second. A field is basically half of a frame. So putting 60i at 50% you will have duplicated frames simply because you do not have 60 frames to work with.

i see, so then what separates 60i from 30fps? what can you do with 60i that you couldnt do with 30? thanks

60i is 60 Fields
2 Fields are 1 frame
69 Fields per second are 30 frames per second

It's a broadcasting standard. Traditional TVs are built to mechanically show fields, not frames. It was Interlaced. It was called NTSC, which means 60i. NTSC-DV is 60i. What comes out the firewire cable of all digital video cams is NTSC, basically.

Why would you use it? I don't know.
