I'm going to get a Mac Pro 8 proc soon and have done a lot of research and now own a G5 dual 2.0 with 5.5 gigs of ram and 5 tyribytes of hd. I run FCP, Maya and After Effects and Motion and tons of other apps along with all of Adobes master collection.
I have tons of things open all the time and this means you should have lots of ram. At Apple to fill it with 32gig it will cost about $9000.00 and at OWC (macsales.com) its right at $2000 so I'll go that route. If you work with lots of programs open going back and forth you need all the ram you can afford.
The cost of the 8proc at the Apple refurb site or Macsales is about the same and with the ram it comes up to what I paid for a Qudra 950 with one gig of ram. Thats hard to believe but it was over $5000 for that set up back then. MacPro Refurb and 32gig of ram about the same price.
I can't wait to go to leopard and speed speed speed!
