Editing station advice...

This is my current PC build:

GeForce 8800 512MB Superclocked x2 (SLI)
Q6600 Intel Quad Core @ 3.0ghz
2GB Corsair Ram
Windows XP Professional
Samsung 226BW (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096)

I'll be using a DVX100 (I'm not sure if I'll be using a 35mm adapter yet) so I'll have SD footage. Would my current setup be good for editing? The monitor I have isn't standard definition, and my instinct tells me that what I see while editing on that monitor wouldn't look the same when played on a standard television or projector. If this is true, would my best bet be to buy a 2nd monitor that is standard def, and use dual monitors for editing (edit on one, view on other)? Please advise.

In regards to your PC:
I think that what you're using is fine for SD footage. Its already rocking a faster and better processor, more RAM, and a better OS than what I've got in my laptop. And I use that to edit HD footage from an HVX200. So unless you're planning on doing a lot of graphics in post... I think you've got yourself a solid set up. Just make sure you've got plenty of disc space and preferably keep your media separate from your operating system drive. Either a second internal drive or external.

Now in regards to the monitor:
You said the monitor isn't "standard definition". Do you mean this because its a widescreen monitor? Because, technically... the pixel aspect ratio for standard definition is 720x486. Most computer monitors now a days support resolutions much higher than that. But if you mean it won't look like because its a widescreen, fret not. For the most part, what you see is what you get. There might be some distortion on your computer monitor, but you won't mess up any projects because of it. Keep everything inside the title/video safe and you're good to go. However, it is a good rule of thumb to use an external monitor anyway for accurate color representation (pending its set up properly).
