Editing Skype video in FCP

I have to record a video interview via Skype, using a utility called Ecamm Call Recorder. http://ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/index.html The utility works well enough and the recorded video is in QuickTime, but it won't work in FCP. I can move it into the program and open it in the preview window, but the footage simply won't play. The FAQs at Ecamm say: "Before importing into Final Cut, we recommend first converting the movies to DV using Apple's Compressor application. This will work around some conversion issues in Final Cut Pro." I have Compressor, but I confess that I haven't spent much time with it, and the time I have spent has not been very productive. That is not an intuitive program at all to my thinking. Has anybody else been down this trail? Do you have any idea how I should approach this? I'm interested in any suggestions.

Thanks.

Compressor looks daunting at first but its really quite simple - there are 4 main windows
(i) get your footage into compressor, top left hand side on the menu bar click on "add a file" then navigate to where your skype video is located, once selected you will see an thumbnail of your footage in that window
(II) the window beneath this has lots of folders (settings) find the folder named quicktime - open it and I suggest you find prores 422 - drag this icon to the window above beside the thumbnail of your footage
(iii) click the submit button (near the centre of the screen), the window bottom right will display a render bar
You footage will be converted - usually in the same location as the source but with the same filename & prores 422 or something
