Editing Setup for FCP in the field?

I am looking for a way to edit XH-A1 footage in the field on my MacBook Pro 2.2 with 4 Gigs of Ram.

I have a firewire 800 bus powered drive but some say I need a Mini Raid and a PCI card to have both firewire camera and drive hooked up? Something about them being on the same chip.

Is this true?

Is there any way I can edit HDV in the field with a bus powered drive? Please let me know what my options are so I can pull out the scale and weigh them!
 
They run no the same "bus". The most productive thing would be to get a pci firewire card so you could do both at the same time. But, depending how much room you have on your internal, you could digitize to the internal then copy to the external and reconnect media. that also depends how much you have to capture though too.
