Editing Question

If you mix frame rates, invariably you will get a render bar. I don't know of any way around that, especially if you are editing multiple tracks on laptop.

One thing you didn't indicate is what you are using as a dedicated media drive.

One suggestion is to shoot at one frame rate, and stay there especially if you intend to do multiple streams.

And then take some time to examine what easy set ups are available for DVCProHD and make certain that set up matches you footage.

Combine that with a hardware RAID from iStoragePro or Caldigit and you won't have as many issues.

Thanks David.

Mixing frame rates can make your life hell. When all else fails, come into the edit bay early one morning and create a timeline with the DVCPRO HD 23.98fps Setup and plug all of your 30 fps footage and click "No" when you get the "Change sequence settings to match clip?" dialog.

Export a self-contained movie and reimport it to cut into your timeline. It will make it a bit of a pain in the ass to scrub through for your clips but the time it will save you over having to constantly render is a life saver.

Is the idea that you're trying to keep them synced up? You might consider using a multiclip.

Thanks for the great advice Joe! I am going to check out the multiclip tutorial video right now!

The easy answer is anytime you overlay footage you have to render. Just like AE needs to Ram preview. Does.nt matter what your timeline is set to. I suggest going to apples site and doing some tuts !!! (6 yrs of final cut exp.)
