Editing Native 24p on PC...

I've captured 16mm footage from a miniDV via DVX and placed it in the 24p timeline of Vegas, and yet there are still interlaced frames.. So i'm guessing its the whole pulldown thing. If so whats the best way to remove it on PC?

Basicly what I'm asking is i know theres alot of you guys out there that use the PC and own a DVX...So, how do you edit native 24p then? I've been dealing with this issue for some time now and no one has ever made it clear. I seriously could tell you all about Reverse Telecline.. and how all the frames blend and what not. But no one has yet explained HOW to remove it correctly. Right now, to me its some big myth.

If you have 16mm telecined to MiniDV, if the lab didn't include the pulldown flags, it's just 29.97. No pulldown to remove. It's not 24p. That will be your interlacing.

Vegas will remove flagged pulldown automatically once you drop the clip onto the timeline.

In Vegas 5, you can still get it to remove the pulldown. If you're in a 24p project, and you import 29.97 telecine'd 16mm film, you can right-click on the clip and select something like "media properties" (not in front of Vegas right now, so I'm taking wild stabs in the dark here) and there'll be an option for Remove 2-3 Pulldown. Choose the right frame offset and Vegas will automatically remove pulldown, giving you a pure 24p stream again. The offset will be a number from 0 to 4, you just try each number until you get pure 24p frames with no interlaced frames.

yea thanks barry.. unfortunately i need more specifics because I've been looking for that "hidden button" everywhere in the program (including clip properties) and yet i can't seem to find it. (Vegas 5) Where exactly is it?

BTW David... the film lab put 24 fps on the label so i dunno why it wouldnt be flagged... but then again it doesn't have the timecode on the footage. I got a digiBeta copy, i just don't have any equipment to get the digi to hard-drive.. mabye its the flagged copy?

Right-click on the clip and select "file format properties". That'll bring up a box where you can click "enable 2-3 pulldown removal", and then specify the "starting frame timecode offset", from 0 to 4.

thanks barry, finally figured it out. You have to right click it in the media pool for some reason.. thanks!!
