Hi,
I have just gotten back from shooting a documentary that used several HDV formats. Now I am beginning the post production process using FCP and want to figure out the best way to handle things.
Most of the footage was shot in PAL 50i but there is also a bunch of NTSC 24p (inside 29.97i), and a little bit of PAL 25p, and some special shoots that used 720 30p and 24p. Basically its a complete mess.
First off is it prefered to go from PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL?
I have recently watched a PAL to NTSC conversion that looked obviously sped up to me. People were moving slightly faster than normal, I chalked that up to losing that extra frame per sec. Does PAL to NTSC alway look like that?
Originally we were shooting for european tv but now were looking for a US theatrical/DVD release. Does it make sense to transcode all the NTSC 24p shot with the canon HV20 to PAL and edit in a PAL 50i timeline?
Since we want to end up with a NTSC 24p master I just want to make the best decisions up front.
Thanks
