Editing MPG as DV in FCP

I am trying to piece together some footage from a potpourri of cameras for a HS soccer team. Most are DV except for a guy who gave me some MPG files from his Sony HDD Handycam. When I bring it into FCP, the compression looks horid. Any motion at all just shows up as squiggly lines. I tried changing the field order of the sequence, but nothing good came of that. What am I missing?

What type of MPEG files is it? Hopefully it's not MPEG1. I'd say your best bet is changing the files to DV. QT Pro should work or you could use MPEG streamclip if you don't have QT pro. Give it a shot, see what happens.

It is MPEG-2 from a Sony. I am doing JUST what you said. Streamclip is putting out .DV files, and FCP seems to like them just fine. THANKS!
