I'm looking for an Editing Keyboard (the Professionnal DV Keyboard from Bella) for FCP. Is it a good thing to buy?

Re: Editing Keyboard

I know the cheapest way to get there is the stickers by EZ keyboards   ::) I spent my money on a usb jog shuttle . . wish I had a few more programable keys but FF RW IN OUT Play are all at a touch and twist away. Just my 2c.

Re: Editing Keyboard

is there any difference between the usb jog shuttle and the jog shuttle on a dv keyboard?

Re: Editing Keyboard

What are you hoping to achieve?

faster editing?

keep your hand off a mouse?

if you want to edit with keyboard shortcuts, the fastest way is just to memorize them all. May sound impossible, but over time, you can do it.

if you want to know my keyboard learning "secrets," let me know.

Re: Editing Keyboard

honestly... save your $179 and buy more RAM with it.

The colored keyboards look cool and all. But the keys are still the same functionality. The shuttle jog comes on it you say? Well... just get a shuttle pro for like $50 bucks. Personally, I just use the mouse and drag the scrub bar.

I mean, if I was going to have Mr. Studio Executive coming by the office to impress him, yah they would think it's great.

Re: Editing Keyboard

Yes WaveRiderXIX it's a good point. I'll go with more memory.
Pooh, i'm curious to know your keyboard learning secrets! Please don't tell me EDIT as much as you can !!! ;D

Re: Editing Keyboard

I got the apple pro keyboard and bought keysets from Logic Key. I hate those big coloured keyboards they sell now, takes up too much deskspace IMHO.

kind of like learning a language. take the cards with you for the dead spots life has to offer ( waiting in line at the grocery store, etc. )
I had a set for my wall and some to carry around. while you are learning just write the stuff on the cards and go through them often. put aside the ones you know already. keep out the ones you keep forgetting or need a refresher on. I got the info on the cards from the manual and books. I should take the cards off the wall now, since I don't need them anymore...there are A LOT more than in the pict.

keyboard shortcuts are the WAY. I even have ones that help me access this site quickly.

--on a side note:

I use a program called ( for the general keyboard shortcuts, for your appls, websites, folders, etc.)

Gabe- the key to financial success is to avoid all ventures you can easily obsess over..like video/film prod.!

Re: Editing Keyboard

is it a good book? I'm looking for a FCP book but don't really know which to buy!

Re: Editing Keyboard

what level are you at?

Kevin's book: I loved the video clips on the dvd and recommend selecting instructional materials that have that, a companion dvd. it was his first book, though well done, overall, I found a few mistakes and some parts where I got lost. I had to do some of the exercises multiple times when I was reading it.. not a beginner book.

For any newbies :my first was : Final cut pro 4, from peachpit press? I think, by Diana Weynand?  sorry, it is buried so far I can't even get to it right now.

this site has bunch of good FCP books.

you can search directly in one of the editing forums and there is lots there in archive too.

good luck!
