Editing in 24pa

Hey i was wondering what settings need to be tweaked in FCP HD to edit 24pa footage as 24pa footage i don't want to remove pulldown or convert anything. The ultimate goal is to burn a 24pa DVD (i know how to do that but i need the darn thing edited first :) )

Re: Editing in 24pa

wow i really scewed up that question!

pulldown is inserted by the camera so that the 24pa footage is actually recorded as 30p if i want to edit at 24p then that pulldown must be removed... i knew that i really did.
specifically i want to verify my settings
the editing timebase should be at 23.98, right?
what should the playback control pulldown pattern in the system settings be set at?
what about the capture/input in the capture settings of the log and capture window?

i will be editing my first feature in FCP and want to make sure i get every thing captured correctly.
also why does my canvas window disappear when i set the timebase at 23.98?

thanks and sorry about the screwed up questions :p

Re: Editing in 24pa

Oh, the details are in here somewhere... but...

Make sure Capture settings are for DV-NTSC-23.98 with 2:3:3:2 pulldown

Make sure timeline is 23.98 fps

and you should be cool.

When you change the timeline to 23.98, yeah, it disappears with the canvas. It'll come back (you may need to click on the sequence in the browser, I don't remember). It's a big change, and FCP wants to make sure you know. ;-)

Re: Editing in 24pa

thanks for the info i thought i had it right but i really didn't want to import all of my footage and then find out that it was captured incorrectly.

Re: Editing in 24pa

It's always a good idea o capture a little, drag it into your timeline, and make sure it all works before you capture everything...

btw, do they still make Mello Yello? I remember from long ago...

Re: Editing in 24pa

I have never had problems with 24pa or 24p, and my students, who can screw up a wet dream, have never complained about this (although I have gotten them complaining about everything else -- the stories are endless -- like the one who wrote her graphics in Word and tried to import that through the capture folder).

Does anyone know what is happening when people have trouble with 24pa in case I ever do run into it?

Re: Editing in 24pa

Make sure to setup for non-drop tiemcode and to install the special plugin script for the DVX100 that offsets the sync 2 frames (if you're using the 100a then you don't need this as I understand it)
