Hi there i currently bought myself the hdr-z1u and i started editing come stuff in vegas 6.0 and my playback is really slow and sketchy. I have a 3.00 GHz HP with .99 GB of ram. Is this sufficient enough to be able to edit hdv.
I have a similar set-up. Yes, it will be jittery on your system unless you watch it in Draft mode (and most likely Preview mode). I recommend that you use Gearshift or Cineform in conjunction with Vegas -- the footage plays well with those.
thanks for comments..but i have tried previewing it in draft mode and all of those modes and still pretty sketch. Do u think playing it on an external monitor would help?
Try Cineform Connect. Takes up about twice as much space and adds some transcode time, but makes editing oh so much smoother and holds up far better than native mpeg-2 from generation to generation. You can try a free demo from Cineform's website.
You can also render your original files to DV (or some other compressed AVI codec) and use those as the intermediary editing files - just replace them with the original M2T's when your done editing then you're set to render.
