Editing HD with G5

If i have HD footage already capture on an harddrive, do i need someting special to edit that footage on my G5??

you need to be a bit more specific.

Codec?
Format?
FPS?

You may need a RAID drive setup for the drive speed to edit.

Do you think it would be easier to go somewhere, capture the footage as dv, edit offline and then go back to online the final edit??

Well, then you don't need anything special...a monitor to view it would be nice, and if you're using HD that can be an expensive setup, but you can get cards that will downconvert for a fair amount of money. Beyond that, enough disk space and speed and you're good to go.
