I own a PC (Dell) and am looking to buy editing software. Is Vegas video the best choice for my computer. Do they offer Final Cut Pro for Pc? I will obviously have to get external drives, but if I wanted to get a whole new computer just for editing how much would it be for a decent setup? Also, are there classes you can take that will teach you editing because I really don't know a whole lot about it. Just what I learned in High School. Thanks.

Re: Editing from start to finish

Hi Tim

You will get alot of different feedback on this so Ill give you mine.

Get VEGAS. It rocks. It can do whatever you need to. FCP is not available on PC. ONLY MAC. (Which is kind of lame for them to pigeonhole themselves).

If you are or KNOW a current student, you can get Vegas plus DVD from places like http://store.yahoo.com/studentsoftwarestore/index.html

Vegas 4.0 +DVD with Screenblast Acid & Vision Series 1 is now at Sale price: $250.00

or

Vegas 4 without DVD is $139.00.

VEgas 5 is currently out and from what I hear is rocking. I dont know your budget so youll have to figure out what your willing to spend. I might be the only one here who did not upgrade to VEgas 5 from 4. I will for 6 though.

Hope this helps and Im sure others can contribute here.

Re: Editing from start to finish

Ok, Thanks so much! A few more questions:

-Do the dvds explain everything I will need to know to use the program to it's potential?
-What exactly is screenblast Acid and Vision Series1?
-Would you recommend that I do go to Vegas 5?
-Do you think I will have to buy a new computer or can I run Vegas on my current setup? (Like does it take up a whole lot of space.) Would an external drive do the trick?

Sorry about such elementary questions. This board is so helpful! Tim.

Re: Editing from start to finish

Hi Tim, I also have a DVX (Pal) and use Vegas 4. If you buy version 4 you will need to download the upgrade to be able to capture and edit 25p. The upgrade is a small file and free of charge from the Sony site.

I started out using Premier some years ago but find Vegas much easier, faster and a lot more fun.

I have a 1.8 processor and 512 meg Ram and Vegas works fine. You might consider an external drive purely for capturing. The Vegas file on my PC takes up about 48 Meg of HD space.
