Editing for hire

When I work for hire, I usually do jobs where I shoot and edit or just shoot footage. This weekend I was hired to do just editing. The client asked for the project file. Is this a normal thing to give out? It was a small job, but I wanted to know if this is standard prictice in case I take more editing jobs in the future. Thanks.

Absolutly, since they own all of the assets and the assets you create in their employ belong to them. Unless you have a specific contract that says you retain control of the ownership (sometimes composers do this) it all belongs to them.

Ok thanks. Just wanted to make sure nothing weird was happening...
