Editing DVX 100a footage using iMovieHD

Has anybody tried editing footage captured by the DVX 100a using iMovie HD? I have shot a short documentary using my DVX 100a in 60i, imported the footage using a 1chip Sony camcorder (into iMovie HD), and started editing... I'm using this as a bit of a test, however, I do not want to progress too much and discover that the process was futile.

Re: Editing DVX 100a footage using iMovieHD

All DVX1000 modes produce 29.97 video from the camera. Editing in iMovie (at least previous versions) is fine with the exception of 24pa. Even that you can edit but the motion won't be as smooth since it's not recorded with the idea of editing in 60i.

Thanks for the reply. Will the footage edited in iMovie HD, once exported, be broadcast quality? And, how different will the quality of that footage be compared with footage edited, rendered and exported using FCP?

Re: Editing DVX 100a footage using iMovieHD

An editing system, at least to my knowledge, does not add or subtract image quality. FCP has more options of course, and has more compression choices, but footage from the same camera, using the same QT compressor, should give you the same results, whether edited in iMovie HD, FCP, FCE, or any other NLE. The level of quality comes from the camera, not from the NLE.
