Editing Desk

So I've been looking at TBC furniture lately, and man, I'm lovin' what I see. There was a great review about they're stuff on Creative Cow about a year ago.

But Almost $2,000. That's just so damned expensive. Am I off my rocker for hoping to get something of that style, with a quality build, for any less than that?

I was looking for something along the lines of the X-K1.

$2000.00 for an 'Editing Desk' ? I don't dount the importance of having something like this if doing it full-time and cutting like King Kong on it but really now; it's a desk.

You need an ergonomically designed chair, a place to put the computer/monitor.

Thats a sham.

Ya man that is crazy. I use an old work bench I found on the street for free and it works great. Even has holes for me to put the wires through and such.
Spend the 2 grand on something fun.

yeah, my "Editing" desk is what my computer desk magically becomes when I am editing on my computer. Dropping that kinda cash on something like this right now, just makes me think of all the other things that money could go towards for making movies...

Here's one similar to mine (you can probably still get it or something similar from Office Depot): $199.99

Absolutely, I don't have the kind of cash to drop on that!

I just want something that big, tiered like that if possible. I've got an Office Depot desk right now. Works fine, but I feel like I have to buy a new one every time I move, they never seem to last.

I'll probably end up going w/ something from Office Depot (again) or Ikea, or something like that.

If you have some carpentry skills and access to tools you could make yourself the same thing for REALLY cheap. Best of all, it would be fully customizable. :)

I knew shop class would come in handy one of these days!

i agree with shaw. i built mine and a friend's desk, for about 200 bucks total (each.) i personally hate the look of those mobile cart pre-fab things.

even if you don't have the tools, you could buy them and still probably end up spending less than something of any quality at a store. then it's totally your own design, and not crappy fiber board stuff you get at office depot.

Those prices are more affordable (though not as low as I'd like), but they look a bit rickety. Anyone have any experience?

Yea... never took shop. Damn you ceramics! How is a homemade coaster going to help me now!?

Everyone at work has the biomorph desks... you'd think they could spare ONE!

now you're talkin'

Yea, winstead also makes some good desks, but they roll in at around the 1k mark as well. For me, I would go to office depot but I just don't like anything they have. I have this ghetto desk right now that came from a hospital, and it works well, but with 2 monitors it's a little small. I have a weird style to my editing where I sort of sprawl my upper body on the desk, so I need alot of space. someday I am going to get a friend of mine who is an awsome carpenter to build me one. It's not too hard to base your design off of the "real" editing desks and come up with something really good.

All these freaking desks are freakkin exspensive..if your so desperate for that futuristic look...take maddd PVC pipes....some silver paint...screws and nails...a welder and some wheels..and you got yourself a sweeet desk that would only cost like 50-100 bucks!!!

wow! What if the monitor falls on top of you?
It's like that Phillips commercial, when flat screen TVs first came out; and that couple mounted one above they're bed. That would scare the crap out of me.

I think my biggest concern is enough space. 2 19" CRTs, 1 14" production monitor and a 9x12 Wacom... that takes up a lot of space. I'll probably just go down to Pier One, or something like that and just get a really sturdy dining room table.
