Editing Decks...

NO CA$H

Veteran
I got my DVX, A mic, and a nice case. Now I need an editing system. I'm gunna buy vegas+DVD soon but I'm worried about what im gunna do for a deck. Is a deck really needed? Can't I just use a cheap Minidv camera? Whats the difference?

A deck is not needed, nor for that matter would a cheap miniDV camera be needed, you could indeed digitize right off the DVX. Obviously it doesn't necessarily demonstrate the wisest allocation of funds (using a $3400 product to do a job that could be done equally well by a $300 product) but, if you're indeed NO CA$H, you could use the DVX for a while if necessary.

A small DV camera would do the job perfectly well. A deck is a much more rugged piece of equipment, designed for shuttling the tape and withstanding a lot more abuse. Very nice to have, especially if you're working professionally, but if you're not, many people get along just fine by using a cheap DV camera as their "deck".

Yep, and you can even use it to do full screen preview by attatching the video out to an external monitor. And, if you need to, you have an extra cam that can be tossed around without too much worry.
