Editing 30P

When editing 30p video for dvd output, is it possible to produce native 30p on the dvd (which ultimately will be played on NTSC TV)? Would dvd player even recognize it if this could be done? Templates in Vegas are for 24p or 60i. There is no pulldown with 30p right, but each frame is converted into two interlaced fields? So does this mean that 30p ultimately must be handled just like 60i? Any help, suggestions, guidance appreciated.

Re: Editing 30P

There's no real advantage to native 30p in terms of editing, disc space, etc.. 30p retains it look on a 60i timeline, so just treat it as 60i.

Re: Editing 30P

OK, thanks. I want the look of 24p, but I see studdering when I pan on tripod at 24p, so it was suggested on this site to use 30p instead. (This is for dvd of inside of house for real estate sale, so stuck with lots of panning). So, if I go to deault settings in scene file 6, but change to 30P, I should more or less retain the look I got at 24P, but see less studder? Then just edit as if it was 60i...

Re: Editing 30P

It will look somewhere between video and film.

But remember -- there's no substitute for learning how to use 24p effectively . . .

Re: Editing 30P

Are there any good books/videos on learning effective use of 24P, or is it more or less learn on the fly by trial and error (and asking lots of questions on this site)?

Re: Editing 30P

Any cinematography book on film will help, because the motion rendering is exactly the same.

The only material specific to the DVX is Barry's book and DVD, and they'd be a wise purchase.

Re: Editing 30P

Yes, I got Barry's book and dvd a couple of months ago, and it was incredibly helpful. I have tried playing with HSL and color correction FX in Vegas, and basically I usually wind up increasing saturation and bumping luminance a bit, but that's the extent of my "color correction" expertise. I would like to learn how to effectively make use of the video scopes tools as well.
