Editing 1920 and 1440 x 1080

Hello all. First timer here. Thanks, for letting me hang out.

This past weekend I shot a music video, we had two cameras a Sony Z1U and a Canon 5d MK2.

I have all of the footage in Final Cut and started to cut it together. I keep getting the dropped frame message and I have pretty much done all I can on that and then I realized that the clips from the Sony are 1440 and the clips from the Canon are 1920.

Its looking like that may be the problem and if its not the dropped frame problem, its still a problem.

What do I need to do to get these files to play nicely together?

Thanks a lot.

15'' MBP
2.4 GHz Core Duo
2 gb ram
OS X 10.5.8
Final Cut 7.0

The clips from the Canon:

Dimensions: 1920x 1080
Codecs H.264, Integer (Little Endian)
Bit rate 39,363

If it were me and it's not, due to both being compressed long GOP codecs and thus making them slow to cut anyway, I would transcode all the shots to prores 4:2:2 and then cut.

H.264 is designed as a delivery codec and should not be used to edit w/in FCP. You should transcode that footage to ProRes and edit with that (assuming you have fast enough storage). This is the standard workflow when using cameras that record in H.264. I'd also recommend transcoding the HDV into ProRes as well just to stream line the editing. I'm not sure how well the MBP CPU can handle mixing and matching HDV and ProRes.
