Editing 1080 HDV (Sony HC-9) and 1920 HD (Sony EX-1) in same FCP timeline

I am putting a show together utilizing a bit of HDV footage and (mostly) larger HD footage in FCP 6, which accepts these formats in same timeline, but the smaller HDV footage shows up as a smaller picture than the HD footage on the monitor (for obvious reasons). Does anyone know the best way to optimize both sources together for best resolution and workflow? I don't want to scale the HDV footage UP to match, because I will lose res and they will match up even LESS, and I don't want to have to shrink EVERY HD shot down to match the HDV and have to wait for all of that to render. Any ideas?

What are your sequence settings? Both the HDV and XCDCAM EX footage should be displayed as 1920x1080.

The EX footage is 1920X1080 but the HDV footage is 1080X720 which makes for a smaller picture. The timeline is set for multiple frame rates and formats, though I have to make the timeline primarily one format whereas any others added must be rendered before I can see them. I want this to be the HDV footage since there isn't that much of it, but I want to maximize the resolution. I have a feeling there's a easy route.

There is no such thing as 1080x720. Your only options are 1920x1080 (aka 1080) or 1280x720 (aka 720). For the HDV footage you can either scale it up to fill the frame in the timeline, use Compressor to transcode it to 1920x1080 (if you did this I'd probably use the ProRes codec to help retain quality), or you can keep the HDV the same size and make some sort of border/background to fill in the rest of the frame (this may or may not work aesthetically depending on the tone of your piece).
