Edit while standing up?

Was reading "In the Blink of an Eye" by Walter Murch again (what a fantastic book btw) and I ran across the part where he talks about standing up when he edits. He says he's able to become more involved in the film and make quicker decisions if he's standing while cutting.

I was curious if anyone else has tried this and what they thought of it? What kind of desk setup did you use?

I think it's a pretty interesting idea. I direct multi-camera productions every now and then, and sometimes I decide to stand during segments. I can see where he's coming from, there's something about standing that makes it easier to get lost in the production and make quick decisions on the fly.

If I can find a decent tall desk that's fairly cheap I may give it a try. I'm sick of sitting slouched over a computer all day anyway.

Yeah I have seen Walter Murch talk about this before. I admire him to the "Nth" degree, but I am going to sit my lazy fat a** down when I edit. Sorry, got no suggestions for furniture.

I've actually considered editing standing up but for more practical reasons. Sitting too much and sitting the wrong way or in a bad chair can wreak havoc on sciatic nerves, etc. I heard a story of an audio post guy who spent so much time seated in front of his computer that he eventually couldn't move his lower body and had to be wheeled out to a hospital. It can sneak up on you if you're not careful.

I'd imagine standing would definitely affect your mindset though. I generally have to get up and walk around every 20 minutes and I also work out while working on long projects. Some people who work in offices walk on treadmills while on the computer.

Yeah, I'm worried I'm going to end up with a hunchback or the like if I keep on with my current setup for much longer. I work in the corporate world, so even when I'm not editing I'm still at my desk sending emails or the like. 8-9 hours a day in my chair can't be good for me. I've tried to get up and walk around when I'm on a project, but I hyper-focus too much when I'm editing and before I know it I've put in a 13 hour day and have barely gotten out of my chair.
