Hey everybody,

I am editing my sequence to tape and that works fine, but I don't get a time code on the tape. Probably some small thing but i tried everything but can't find it to work. Hope someone can help me? Thanks in advance!

Ok, let's take a look at this...
What sort of tape, are you using a deck or camera?
Can you set the deck/camera to generate it's own timecode?
How do you know there's no timecode?

You can either black a tape with timecode and insert or assemble edit to it, or you can crash record and whatever timecode the deck/camera is set to as a start timecode will be the code. But I think most all digital tape formats will have some kind of timecode. Even DV does.

What's the setup? What deck, format, software, etc?

[edit] - oh and how are you doing the output in FCP? What procedure are you following?

Hey guys, thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I am using a normal mini dv tape and I am using my HVX to transfer it to. If I watch the lcd screen on the camera as I am editing to tape, there is no timecode running and when I play it back there is no timecode. The editing to tape didn't work at once so we changed some things to get it, maybe something went wrong there (my friend did some things to that I don't know of). Maybe it is only a problem with that tape and I can simple put in a new one, I haven't tried that yet.

Miklbone I am editing to tape by transfering the sequence to assemble, I think I erased the timecode with the camera or something...

First of all, "Edit to Tape" was never ment to be used with the Mini-DV format, as it's not sync'ed and locked off as reliably as Beta and such. Print to Tape is what should be used for going out to Mini-DV tape.

Also, striping Mini-DV tape is a myth. Once you go back and record over it, it's writting all new time code anyway. I don't know a DV camera made that "reads" timecode when in record mode. FYI.

This happened to me too once. I had the HVX hooked up, then reset the Timecode to zero and then hit record. No time code rolled. I hit play on the timeline and it put it out to tape without time code. I stopped the process at the end and only then realized it. I didn't see it early in the program, but at like 80% off the way through, so I didn't stop it. I reset the timecode and did the next hour and it was fine. It's been fine since. I'm not sure what caused it.

I found the problem, real simple, somehow in the camera menu it has to go to tc gen and the problem is solved... Thanks for the help guys
