Edit Room LCD Monitor

I wish we lived in a large city were we might have a chance at a side-by-side comparison between production monitors, but we don't. Does anyone have any experience with any of these?

Sony LMD-2450WHD 24-inch (1920x1200)- $3350 (comes with BKM243HS - HD-SDI input box)
Panasonic BT-LH1700 17-inch (1366x768) - $2400 (older model)
Panasonic BT-LH1760 17-inch (1366x768) - $3580 (new model)
JVC DT-V24L1DU (1920x1200) - $3300

I've read good reviews on the new Panasonic BT-LH1760, and I've read a good older review about the JVC, but I've found nothing about the new LMD Sony's. I like the idea of a full raster monitor (1920x1200) for critical editing room use, that's why I'm leaning toward the Sony. But I think I remember seeing on Adam Whilt's site that he thought the blacks looked a little crushed. In addition, I don't "think" the Sony has a built-in waveform/vector scope like the Panasonic does. But I could get by without this feature by using the scopes in Final Cut Pro.

We narrowed our choices down to these 4 monitors because we decided that we would like to get a good quality "reference" monitor for the edit rooms, as opposed to using a 24-inch Cinema display with a Matrox MXO or even a consumer LCD monitor from Costco.

SIDE NOTE: The only thing that doesn't add up is the manufactures choice for using LCD instead of Plasma. We own a beautiful Pioneer KURO Elite 50-inch plasma as our main tv in our home and it's just GORGEOUS! If Pioneer made a smaller version I'd be tempted to go that route (although there would be no HD-SDI input)

BTW, we're going to be using a MOTU V4HD to send a HD-SDI signal to the edit room monitor.

Thanks for any advice! :)

don't get the Sony... their LCDs are definitely the worst of any company. I have the JVC (at home and at work). The 24L1DU has been updated to the 24L3DU, not much different, but it includes a built in waveform monitor (very handy). The JVCs are a pretty good deal if you are not considering the higher end LCDs (eCinema or TVLogic).

out of the ones you listed, JVC > Panasonic > Sony

btw, about the kuro... those are made to make things look nice, not to be a reference quality display. I love my 50" plasma too, but I wouldn't color correct with it.

Thanks for the quick reply (recommendations). So you really like the JVC? I've never been a fan of JVC products....especially cameras. But the DV magazine reviews have been very positive.

I forgot to ask about how they do with Standard Def footage? We're going to be replacing our high end Sony 14-inch CRT monitor with it, and I've seen how bad SD footage can look on an HD monitor....not good. Any of these look decent? (worst case we can keep our CRT hooked up for SD work)

The JVCs do a pretty good job with SD (definitely above avg). One nice thing with the JVCs is that they have a 1:1 button that you can press and it'll show you the image without scaling (works with SD and 720p). So while the picture is small, it is quite sharp. So you can CC and such fullscreen and then pop it into 1:1 to check sharpness.

I have connected V4HD to many monitors. Despite of what bigbossbmb mentioned, current Sony LCD monitors are good, indeed the older lumas were horrible, but the new ones are good. In my opinion JVC LCD are bargain with the features, but they don't have good viewing angles.
