Need help on edit flow question
On a documentary now in the production phase I am shooting the majority of the footage on the FS7 using XAVCI codec, UHD in the CineE mode. I will also be shooting some footage on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera in HD. My editing equipment is getting a bit old (mid 2010 Mac Pro, 2x2.4 GHz Quad Core, 28 GB 1066 MHz memory, Mavericks 10.9.5, Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 2048MB). On my present equipment I can view the UHD footage in an HD timeline of Resolve and PP14 but the playback is problematic, slow response, stuttering of audio, etc. I am now thinking I should bring all the footage into Resolve and give it a one pass color grade and output it to ProRes HQ for editing in PP14 or perhaps even go back to FCP7 which is what I am most used to using. The critical question is: If, when I am editing and I rename clips to be more descriptive, rather than just using the original clip numbers, when I have completed editing and want to go back to the original UHD files for color correction and mastering of the program, either in UHD or in ProRes HQ will I have problems linking up the files from my edit to the originals? Are there issues to be careful about? I want to be sure I will not run into problems later on.
Thanks for your help.
