Hi There,

I currently have an R44 and have found a problem when sending the line outputs to a camera using XLR inputs (Sony Z1 etc) The recording level seems to be very quite!.... the camera setting is set to line in and level to max but the recording level is too low.

I have hower been successfull in using it as a mixer with the sony FXG i think which has a small jack input.

has anyone else had this problem?.... or even better found a way round it?...

i do intend to buy a decent mixer but dont have the funds yet.

any advice??? thanks.

Can you define 'too low'? 0 decibels is a level you never want to be hitting with digital recording. -20 or maybe -12 are better targets.

i forget the exact levels but probably peaking around -30ish? - you could hardly here any input through the camera headphones either.... whillst the r44 would be around -12 even pushing it up to -8....

has anyone found this prob before?... someone must have synced an r44 to a camera?

thanks.

Is it possible that you've connected the R44 to the camera via attenuating cables?

Have you tried it using a different pair of cables between the edirol and the camera?

Having the same problem when trying to connect the R44 to the HVX, any R44 users that can share some info on this?
Also, how do I dial in the audio correctly, since there isn´t a pilot tone on the R44?

Thanks!

According to the online specs, the R-44's line output is fixed at -20dBu. That puts it 24 db below pro line level and about 8 db below even consumer line level. Why are you feeding the recorder's line out to your camera anyway? A better approach is to use a mixer with multiple outputs, feeding one to set to the recorder and the second set to the camera.

Hey Steve, I just got the R-44 to partner up with my 550D, which started out as a holiday all-in-one cam and ended up in production ;)
Well, so i thought why not try to also use it with the HVX...?
It ain´t no SD mixer, but I actually find it quite nice to work with and sometimes when a separate soundperson isn´t an option it may come in handy with the Pana too.
(E.g- locked down 3 person interviews with clients I know for years but who are VERY picky when it comes to bringing other freelancers to the gig...)

So why would they fix the line out at a level, that´s neither pro, nor consumer?
The manual also say you can output a monitor signal via the line-out jacks, which levels you can set, but doesn´t say how?
