Edirol FA-101 and the NEW FA-66

Hello all just wanted to see what the audio folks had say about the Edirol FA-101 and the newer (not even out yet) FA-66 firewire interfaces by Edirol/Roland. Has anyone used the FA-101 in situations other than in the recording studio, like on the field as an interface for live recording edirol/laptop or mixer/edirol/laptop. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this set-up?

thanks for any replies.

Assuming I have good microphones, etc. before it all hits the Edirol, is the quality still gonna be there when I finally get it into the laptop? My choices other than this set-up were Mackie Onyx Mixer to laptop but that cost too much for me and wouldn't be so portable. So the Edirol is looking good. The question I'm trying to find out is should I or shouldn't I go this route. Thanks Oleg.

if the pramp is good why not , you can feed both the camera and the computer , they were alwais cheap , and if i dont mistake they in some way related to rolland that making very good products , sometimes very wird with very individual thinking , the 5 was very popular between "without to much money "tapers

In short..... These boxes rock the house. I don't own them. But have used them, and I like them. If I ever need another firewire interface, these are my next buy. I have been really checking out everything by Edirol, and their product line is pretty good, especially their speakers.

I'm looking into their speakers too. I've read your past posts mentioning that you liked them. I need to hear or read more reviews. I don't I can actually go an hear them as there is no dealer in Seattle, well maybe guitar center might have something. But yeah for my budget those speakers might be the way to go. Anything else you can say about the speakers? Did you use a Mac or PC with the Edirol FA-101/66 and if a Mac what software did you use to capture?

I was running a mac at the time with Bias Peak. It was someone else's rig, so I didn't know it in and out.

Ian, I live in Seattle too. If I am considering a big purchase I just drive up to Vancouver. They have some of the best audio houses anywhere. Don't buy any of your professional equipment up there though. :P
