Edelkrone Sliderplus V2 please tell me the good/bad

So im a still photographer by profession and recently got a few clients that wants moving shots so I'v started dabbling into hdslr video and all that it entails... To make a long story short i'm now in the market for my first slider.

It will be almost exclusively used for my restaurant clients, for "mood" shots in the restaurant and of the food. So my criteria is a portable slider (between 80-100cm) and preferably that it will work on one tripod.

I'v narrowed it down to the Edelkrone Sliderplus V2 which looks like a innovative design, and i haven't read any negative reviews (not explaining what exactly they don't like about it anyway) only short negative comments.

The other slider i contemplated due to it's moderate price is the Konova K5 (80cm or 100cm) but the edelkrone design on one tripod is more alluring to me, even though the konova looks to be quite more versatile in terms of angles and vertical use.

I will most likely purchase a high end slider like Kessler or Tront later when it will pay for it self, but with the investment in new grip gear and lighting i have to stick to the budget. The Edelkrone tops it at 500eur.

So in short for those of of you who owned and used the slider plus V2 what was terrible with it and what was good ?

You feedback is much appreciated!

Regards
Paul

No takers ? :-( Well i guess I'm gonna find out soon enough anyways..:-) Ordered mine from Tripodmarket, which processed my order within 30minutes and had it ready for the carrier within the hour.. That's quite impressive!

Will report back with the good/bad if anyone interested.

I'm interested. Am looking at either the Edelkrone or the Duzi. The Edelkrone got a lot
of bad comments with their v1 slider, haven't heard as much with v2. Duzi gets good reviews
and I was set to go that way, then Edelkrone comes out with the wizard module and the tracking
module, giving smooth, motor controlled motion and curved perspective motion. Now I'm
leaning back toward Edelkrone.......
Let me know how it is. Which version of the slider did you get? Small, medium, large?

Yes the Wizard module and the Target module really intrigues as well.

I got the Large version, will get it tomorrow (1-day shipping hungary to Sweden, that is fast!) but will probably not have time to try it until Thursday or Friday due to a shoot tomorrow.

Have you had a chance to try it out yet?

PROBLEM DISCOVERED!
I just received my slider today set it up needed to do minor adjustments and discovered the same weird problem! Here's what I discovered. Once I assembled my pistol grip, pocket rig, follow focus one, GH3, and Rode Video Mic, the weight of a rig caused the wheels on one of the axles to nudge out and bump against the carriage. I guess it was a bit too heavy. So I pulled out the custom allen wrench they supply (Not a standard allen wrench BTW) and pushed the wheel in until it clicked into place while I tightened the screw. That fixed the first issue.

After several takes and experiments, really enjoying the slider, and getting great shots, I left my setup and had lunch. I came back a hour or two later and tried sliding the slider like I was before and out of nowhere it had major BUMPS about "eight small hiccups" occurred while sliding the slider carriage from one end to another? WTF!!?? Where did they come from? This thing was smooth as butter when I set it up and tested it.

So I took all the gear off the slider, took it off the tripod and put it on a flat counter. This time when I tried to slide it to test and feel the bump effect, I could barely move the slider at all. It had that magnetic, sticking effect, and bumps now combined! So I remembered I had tightened the wheel on one of the axles, so I loosened it a bit and WHALA, it was sliding without sticking. But wait, it still had a bump effect in the ride. So I kept sliding it fast, putting weight a bit on it, lifting it, flipping it over and after a couple of minutes the bumps smoothed back out again.

So what I discovered is those eight little bumps occurred at each rotation of the wheels down the track. This is what I experienced on my medium version, from one end to the other. Between the camera and accessories I had mounted right on top of the wheels in locked position, or even just the slider weight on a tripod itself mushes the wheels a bit over time. The adjustment settings for the wheels is going to be required depending on the different loads I put on it. This stands true whether I mount it on the tripod or on a flat surface.

I haven't called Edelkrone yet, but it is a manufacturing design flaw appears to be in the synthetic wheels! This is just my humble opinion after studying this for a while today. The belt appears to be fine. I think they are going to have to find a harder plastic, without a weight or memory issue to eliminate this problem. Hopefully it will still achieve a smooth ride. This means either a recall or they send replacement parts (No Charge) to all of us who have invested in them. I require dependable, stable and smooth working gear, I chose Edelkrone because of their commitment to excellence and to superior craftsmanship. I am a bit disappointed that they didn't catch this issue before launch.

I trust they'll live up to their reputation and take care of this issue ASAP!
Hope this helps solve the mystery for you all. I post again and let you know what Edelkrone says when I call them on this.

Update:
I got a great response from Edelkrone addressing the issue any way I wanted. They offered a replacement unit, no additional shipping costs or a refund including all shipping costs. So customer service is awesome! I spoke to Gorken Mimioglu who seems to be point man in the Florida office for these kinds of issues. you can contact him at gorken.mimioglu@edelkrone.com

I found a video on youtube with a similar issue and I posted my comments there as well: http://youtu.be/HHiMDYSJZ_c

I sent him a solution I found to deal with the issue on my end by simply flipping the slider upside down and it works perfectly. Not the best solution, but hey it gets me through production and I'll send it back to get a new one and see if the problem with their soft plastic wheels is resolved.

and here is what he said. (See images attached:)

I sent these images to show him my workaround and offered a few tips I discovered would help upgrade certain features of the slider. Overall it's an amazing design and seems to be working really smooth now. If I can get it flipped back over and a 3/8 hole on the top instead of a 1/4 20" and a few extra rubber bumpers, then all would be perfect!

Good morning Steven,
Although, I have shared your feedback with our tech support, without waiting for their input with the time difference and wasting time, I like to personally address this concern.

Firstly, I like to thank you for reaching out to me directly. I read your email and your comment on the youtube video with great sadness last night.

This youtube video you have shared with me has a different spot in my heart and not a good one. We have tried to reach this gentleman, Mr. Jack Slider, who happens to have one video on youtube addressing this problem as "edelkrone SliderPlus v2 Problem". I have highlighted his last name for your better understanding of what the intention behind this video may be. We have tried to address this concern under comments on the video, yet he has not allowed for us to share our input. This is what the edelkrone HQ have tried and tried to post on there:

"Hi all,

There was an issue about the mid bump which is caused by the rubber belt remembering its position after a time. However, the issue is improved by changing the rubber belt with a fabric belt. Please contact us via info@edelkrone.com for free fabric belt.

You could also check our website for the new SliderPLUS motion control modules."

I am particularly sad that you thought we didn't address this issue. The SliderPLUS v2 you have received actually has the improved 6mm 3M fabric timing belt. Now, clearly there still is an issue with your new slider. And it would only make me happier to take care of it for you immediately. Quoting what you have stated "This means either a recall or they send replacement parts (No Charge) to all of us who have invested in them." and "I trust they'll live up to their reputation and take care of this issue ASAP!". You can rest assured that neither under mine nor our Founder and CEO, Kadir's watch we would allow for any of your investment to go to waste. For this reason, instead of relying on Mr. Slider's clip, I like to kindly ask you to send me a quick video you may be able to take with your phone showing the issue on your unit. Depending, I will either send you replacement parts or a brand new replacement SliderPLUS v2 FREE of charge.

edelkrone, as you have indicated, has a great reputation not only when it comes to innovating and introducing top quality products, but also with our customer service. We value our customers and their productions like no other. We simply don't sleep to make sure that we continue to innovate and address our customers' needs. If there is ever a problem, we attend to it or in this youtube's case, try (!) to attend to it immediately. It is heart breaking to me that Mr. Slider doesn't want to post our comment on his clip which is something I am leaving to your professionalism to evaluate.

Please let me know, if you are able to send me a quick clip showing me your issue, if it is still there. If it is, as I have mentioned, we'll take care of it ASAP.

You can have all the faith in edelkrone that your hard earned money will never go to waste with investing in us and our products. If you conclude that, even after I may have sent you a brand new replacement and that nothing is working out, I will gladly refund you in full for your SliderPLUS v2. I will even refund the returned unit's shipment cost with my apologies for any and all inconvenience we have caused you.

I look forward to hearing from you and am hoping that you will re-evaluate this youtube video you have commented on and shared with me. Please call me directly on my cell phone, if you like to chat a bit more: 503.810.8914.

Cheers,

Have you had a chance to try it out yet?

Yes but only briefly, i have a deadline for a commercial that is due in next week so unfortunately i don't have much time over.

Will repot back as soon as i'm done with that, and have had a chance to use it some more.

Thanx Steven for that detailed post.

Edelkrone really go out of their way as far as customer service goes, if someone refuse that service well that is their problem.

Not sure if the question was to me but i'll answer anyway. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I haven't tried the old version with the rubber belt so i have nothing to compare to, but i haven't had any issue with this "new" belt either way.

I'm very happy with it, it works as advertised and i will most likely get the Action module for it in the coming months.

Thanks Paul yes the question was aimed your way hehe glad the V2 with new fabric belt is working out.

Yea it works great! The downside of getting the action module is that you have to revert back to the old belt.. so if you plan on using without the module it's less then optimal i guess.

I also got the case for the slider for transport, which is very nice.

No absolutely not, what i meant is that if you gonna use it by hand the fabric belt is best suited. If you buy the module you have to revert back and mount the rubber belt with "gears" to be able to use the module. If you then decide to use it by hand you have either use the rubber belt or remove it and mount the fabric. (which sounds like a PITA to do on a regular basis)

It works very well by hand, with some practice (which i need) you can get really excellent moving shots.

I keep telling my self that i need to excel my technique, and that i will not buy the module before i have done so.

Ahhh ok thanks for clearing this up Paul. What i like about this design is the way you can track forward or back and the rails will stay out of shot you know i think i might fall for one of these :)
