Edelkrone Pocket rig copy?

Yeah, I saw an article on cheeseycam about these Chinese duplicates that were popping up on ebay. They are not rebadged Edelkrones, they are Chinese knockoffs.

Probably the quality and attention to detail will be lacking, but I don't know as I have not actually read any reviews about the product.

I'm sticking to Edelkrone; I have one on backorder.

Just wondering if it's to big to go with the gh2, but it sure is nice.
I'm from Denmark, so with tax ect. I'm looking at 299$ +37,5% in customs :(

Don't tell anyone, but, when you place an order with Edelkrone there is an option for you to state the value you want the product to be (for customs). So if you were that way inclined you could have Edelkrone state that you paid $20, and you will be taxed on that.

One other big difference is that Edelkrone have a lifetime warranty; and I have heard that when they decided to make some changes and upgrade the designs they sent the upgraded parts to customers with the older designs.

They seem to be a very enthusiastic and proactive group of designers who think outside the box. At least when you buy from them you know that some of your money is going to be directed towards R&D for new designs. The same can not be said of cheap knockoff groups.

Dude, I would edit your post, don't incriminate them. If they offer this kind of "service", I'm sure they will do so automatically,
then again, customs officers are not stupid. Nobody will believe this is worth $20 and it will only lead to more trouble.
It can get very ugly if you try to fool customs authorities. I've been running a international trading business for over a decade, I know what I'm talking about.

But to the point... people, support the original designers and manufacturers please. They put a lot of effort and money in their gear and don't deserve to be ripped off by low quality China knock-offs.
I live and work in Hong Kong and have seen all the China knock off gear, from Zacuto ones to Redrock Micro and anything in between and I can tell you it's not worth it. The quality is way inferior, no warranty obviously. I would never trust my expensive camera/lenses to be safe on knock off gear! Period.

But the bottom line, once more, don't support knock off manufacturers in China or elsewhere please. It's not the right way.

Hehe :) That is very good to know!

Actually i found it (...the original) in a store here in Denmark, they want 333$+25% tax
I'm going to drive by tomorrow and see it under my little lumix.

Well, I would edit my post, but you had already quoted my post in full (and I can't edit that)!:lipsrseal

Anyway, as I said "if you are that way inclined" so I 'm neither supporting it or against it. The $20 is just an example that I pulled out of my ***, as you say I doubt that would be a wise number to use.

I have the experience, that the custom guys shake their heads and say:

"You paid WHAT! for those two 19 mm rods? Bwahahaha - we have a nice bridge for sale"

Most of them can´t believe how much we usually pay for the simplest mechanical devices like a FF.

:) Frank

Frank I'm surprised since you live in Germany. Where actually?
I used to live in South Germany, the customs guys there always have the hand on the pulse. They look stuff up on the internet and know what it costs... anyways, just saying be careful with deceiving customs.... no wait...

I was saying, buy original gear and don't support knock off makers!

I will, I'll be going to the store when it opens in about an hour. Regards to customs, I woudn't think they would notice, I'm getting small packages from China and Hong Kong all the time, our limit for when it should be declared is 13dollars, but who are they to know that the pocket rig are actually i little bit more... I don't feel bad about ripping of my county for its tax, lousy contry anyway ;)

Hey, please give the Pocket Rig a complete workout and let us know what you think of it.

One thing i am worried about: the shoulder stock is on a 'hinge' of some sort, so how much pressure are you able to put the rig under when bracing it (pulling against the shoulder), or does the hinge collapse under pressure? Usually when using a shoulder stock rig I like to pull it in tight to the shoulder to get stability.

Also, the rods are also on a hinge. Would they be able to support a follow focus that only attaches to one rod, or will the hinge start to give?

Thanks for that video. Great at showing strengths/weaknesses. Annoying about the loosening of the hinge but it seems to get a whole lot right in terms of flexibility/compactness. Also seems that there is a bit of space when the brace plate is collapsed that something thin and "grippy" could be adhered to the shoulder pieces and it would still collapse and stow as it should?

I'm really interested in this with a focusone for traveling around with my gh2.

Hey, thanks you're a star!

Would some sort of a lock pin or a ball bearing lock (like on the rods) have been nice on the shoulder mount, to lock it into place?

Also the base plate where it would be threaded into a tripod seems to have quite a small surface area; just wondering does it lock tight to a tripod or is it loose?

Yeah there is some room, you could pad the shoulder hinges seperatly with a couple of mm. of foam or rubber (gaffatape?).
I'm also waitning for a cheap fotga follow focus, should be real interesting. The rods unfolded are easy to travel with. But it fits my bag pretty bad. But across the chest in a slingstrap (I've got a sunsniper pro) thats fine. On my GH2 I have to unscrew the hole thing anyway to insert a new battery, so when travelling I think I will keep it in my bag seperatly from the camera.

Well i dont think the hinges are suposed to come loose, but i choose to tighten them, because I found it to be kind of sliding around when put to the shoulder, so i made them tight to give some support. I think it was supposed to be sort of a set and forget screw. Because the allen screw needed (the smallest i could find, 1-2mm) bends when tightening the hinge, so it's kind of hard. So YES they should have made a lock pin or some kind of other lock!

The base is quite small, but its solid metal about 5mm. so it wont go anywhere. It's just a matter of tighten the screw enough. But i think it could have been made better, wider, one more screw, rounded corners for comfort and grip. But a good thing about the size, is that your thumb can reach around, and you can stabalize the rods with your index finger, like a pistol grip, not so pleasent, but it works...

I've made a new thead showing off the video, this thread was for the copy :)

Thanks. Helpful. I am very interested in this for a walk-around setup. Small, sling-able (wouldn't have thought of that - awesome.)

Any reason other than price why you are going with the fotga over the edelkrone's focusone? Thinking of a kit of the two.

Nah, just the price. First i was thinking of making a DIY FF, but the pieces ended up costing the same as the Fotga :)
