ECM-XM1 microphone mount on my camera. Any upgrade possible?

Hi,
i have a ECM-XM1 microphone shotgun mounted on the Sony HXR-NX30 (its the shotgun that comes with the camera).

For mounted microphone, is there any upgrade ?

What ive heard is that i wouldnt notice the difference between a good mic and a cheaper mic if its mounted on the camera.
But since im a one man band i prefer to mount the mic on the camera.

You heard correct.. sort of. A cam mounted mic is OK for ambient sound, (aka, nat sound) for b-roll and such, but that's about it. For any decent sounding dialog, the mic should be in close proximity to the source .. typically, less than 18 inches.
If you have the money, a high-quality mic is worthwhile and would sound 'better', all things being equal, but it won't change the law of physics.

It might sound "different" but it's not likely to sound "better" if you're recording spoken word with an on-camera mic, no matter what mic you choose. Acoustics is acoustics.
