I'm one of wannabe director, would like to shot my shots with family & friends, I'm looking for a basic good quality mini dv in around $1000 bucks and happend to see this in ebay, the seller mentioned that there is a PIT on the lens, could you any one explain how this pit effects my quality of recorded video? Can I see the Dust when I convert the recorded video to DVD? Techies pls suggest me?

A pit is, I'm guessing, a chip in the lens. There's really no way to tell just what it will do. Ask for some screen grabs.

In any case, I would be hesitant to but a DVX on Ebay.

definitely ask for a screen grab where it is at its worse. Perhaps with the lens at its widest, you can shoot in letterbox mode and the cam's black bars will cover it (if its low enough in the frame). If that was the case it would be a good deal at 1K IF you don’t mind always shooting letterbox (I prefer it anyways). Also ask him what Z number he has to zoom to get rid of the problem. If its low enough you just have to back yourself up to compensate.

Whatever camera you get, get a UV/HAZE filter before even using your cam. When I got my DVX about a week ago, as soon as I got it out of the box, I removed the hood and screwed on a tiffen UV filter. This poor guy lost allot of money because of not spending another $15 on a protector.

I'd be very leary of spending that kind of money on ebay. Without seeing some screengrabs of what this "pit" looks like, I wouldn't even consider it. If the owner is serious about selling it, he'll go to the trouble to email you grabs of the defect.
