Ebay & Dollys

I honestly don't care for the look of those wheel mounts/trucks. And bear in mind this is just a kit, you supply plywood.

I've used the glideshot set, available at glideshot.com and I'm VERY happy with it. I put them on a 2x4 wood platform I built to hold me and an AC.

the more important question is what are you going to run it on?

I recommend genuine Norms professional heavy wall tracks. They're much cheaper than you might think and better than all the other stuff out there. Of course you would have a pricey shipping charge, whereas I just drive up the road and throw in on my truck.

In my opinon though, a good dolly is the best investment you can make, and not worth scrimping on.

Thanks Icarus for the reply.

The dolly on EBay for myself is pretty economical considering I am in Australia. Fully delivered is $215USD!

I am looking at alternatives but most of the equipment lies in the US and the shipping costs aren't cheap!

I agree with you that spending that bit extra for a quality product is a important. But I was just trying to weight up what people thought of the quality of this Ebay dolly. Why do you say you "don't care for the look of those wheel mounts"? Still learning here, and trying to establish what to look for.

With regards to the track. Haven't decided on that yet. One step at a time :) I will start looking locally to see what is available.

Thanks

Robert

go to glideshot.com and look at their wheels. the ones on ebay, the trucks, looked rather thin to me, meaning may not hold a lot of weight if you're planning on building a rig for yourself and AC to ride on.

...you could also check out the Rowe Cine dolly wheel kits by clicking on the picture in my post here. they are much better made and looking than the e-bay ones..and are cheaper.. even including shipping in the price. of course ordering is alot more secure through us and DVXUser.com here as well. and each sale also helps support DVXUser.com Even our basic 4 wheels per corner 4 foot full legnth rail version will ride up to 250 lbs easily. we are recieving our custom made wheels this week specifically designed by Rowe Cine for usage with cinema dollies. perfect height-width-durometer-hubspacing.. yada yada.. and are branded Rowe Cine. color is black. we will be updating the order page with new pictures when we get the wheels in and have a kit built. happy shooting

It seems Neil's wheels are the flavour on here. I posted a message to Neil on his thread asking a couple of questions relating to shipping.

For me living in Australia to have something delivered to my door for $215USD is pretty good. If Neil can do a similar price then it becomes a no-brainer. I would much prefer to buy something that has the backing of several other people, rather than go with an unknown. One thing though is you don't get the T-Bar with Neil's kit.

Ah, sweet memories.

But, then again, I doubt you're talking about the thickish g-strings exotic dancers sometimes wear.

yeah.. i know.. :( were working on a pushbar design. it will probably sell for between 15.-25.00 including shipping when its done... unless theres demand for some tricked out push handle?

yeah, it is worth mentioning that there is another dolly wheel alternative too with glideshot. www.glideshot.com sells 4 wheel per corner swivel track kits with a pushbar for 299.00 but the wheel kits have a maximum load bearing of 150 lbs.. so it not really rideable unless you are really small..with no equipment. and IMHO if you actually need and can afford some professional curved track to put the swivel wheels on.. you would probably be using a more expensive dolly to put on it. there is also willy's wheels @ http://www.willyswidgets.com/pr_wheels.html .

anyway.. ill hop on over to the dolly thread and check the questions regarding the shipping for you. theres alot of choices out there for anything you buy, just noting that its important to review all aspects of the products to make the most informed and reasonable choice to meet your production needs. when it comes to low cost dolly wheel assemblies, we feel we offer the best quality and value for the money. no corners cut. and extras that help make it stand above the rest ..stronger-quieter-cooler looking, and keep you shooting with confidence.

..did i mention your also supporting DVXUser with every purchase? :)

Just thought I'd jump in here and mention that our wheel assemblies mentioned above are rated at 150 lbs. "each" meaning 600 lbs. total (with all four installed). Additionally, we now offer the GS36 which is (2) - 36" rails with 4 wheels on each end, with 3 mounting holes on each rail (in the peaks). These retail for $189.99 per set.

Thank you!

Hi Yankee, we've sold a couple to repeat customers and have added the GS36 to our site today. You can see it here

Thanks again!
