I was comfortable using a compositing program called COMMOTION for all my keying shots. But as many of you may now that program was discountinued. Can you recommend a good program that wont take me reading a bible to understand it?
Most video editing programs can do basic compositing and keying. Not as well as dedicated programs, but if you want easy to use I'm going to guess you don't plan to use advanced features.
The primary keying tools in Commotion (Primatte keyer and Composite Wizard) were plug-ins and they are still being sold by Red Giant as After Effects plug-ins:
You don't say what kind of computer or editing software you are using, but Motion (the SFX program that is part of Final Cut Studio) includes a version of Primatte and a number of other keying tools if you are on a mac and have FCS.
The bottom line, however, is that the main programs with functionality comparable to Commotion, such as After Effects and Motion, take some effort to learn, just as Commotion did when I started using it. You can choose a program with the some of the same plug-ins that were in Commotion and that may provide more familiarity than another program, but in any event you will still have an initial learning curve to deal with. But I don't think either of these programs is any harder to learn than Commotion was.
BTW, I thought Commotion was a great program and I was very sorry to see it go.
