Easy question.

Yes I guess you can use a DVX, but you should really not be lighting at auditions (still have a well lit room)... you are just recording for future use to look back on. You are referring to casting right? I have never seen a casting call with people lighting a set like they were really gonna film a scene.

I really think seting up lighting and using a main cam is a bad idea, unless you own the main cam and the media you are recording with is not expensive.

Auditions? I just get my friends so drunk that they don't realize they're acting in a movie.:)

I like to drug my actors. Shoot the auditon and then dump them in Mexico. The ones who find their way back--well they get the part.

I would only light for rehearsals, not auditions.

the auditions aren't a screentest. the video is for reference. you should be concentrating on how well they listen to the person they are reading with and if they can make adjustments to their performance after hearing your direction for the second read.

rehearsals do offer a great time to get things down, and to test ideas. But it is not an audition.

Auditions for feature films are just using sh*t cameras. Ever watch auditions on dvd extras? I do and it is always some home vid camera the casting director has. Sometimes they use nice cams like dvx, but to them, dvx is just a little home movie cam :(

For an example, check out wes anderson's Rushmore DVD. It has casting call extra feature. Looks like sh*t, but is entertaining.
