Easy focusing with the DVX and the 16x9 anamorphic lens.

Well So far in my film Holy War, we've shot stock footage traveling down a road, about one hour's worth, and some scenes outdoors with some of the actors. The big shoot at TMCC is coming up in the next few days but I thought I'd drop you guys a note and let you know how it is going.
It was so easy to focus with the 16x9 lens I couldn't believe it, but there is a catch. You have to buy an HDTV monitor and hook the camera up to it. I bought one, a 17 inch Initial at Walmart of all places for $600.00, but there are several out there in that price range or a 100 or so more. I would recommend a good sized one, the smaller ones that fit on the camera are not that much better than the camera LCD. You have to live with the colors being a little hot and not as true on the consumer HDTV I'm told, but the picture clarity is superb and focusing is easy with the 16x9 lens. When you hook up the camera with the 16x9 lens to the HDTV it fits the screen from corner to corner and you see the same thing the camera sees, which takes out a lot of guesswork with that lens. I have been able to see and focus on individual hairs on the actor's heads, and I think that’s as good as the DVX can do anyway focus wise.
