Tar Heel State moviemakers are invited to submit feature-length and short films for the first-ever Sister City Film Festival in May.
Submissions will be accepted from Feb. 25 to April 25. The free-admission festival is scheduled for May 10 at the Athens Theatre, 414 Pollock St. in downtown New Bern.
Films of any style and addressing any subject matter may be submitted. All entries must be no longer than two hours and should be the exclusive intellectual property of their creators. There is no entry fee.
The Sister City Film Festival evolved from the New Bern Independent Filmmakers Conference, a project of the Forensic Society communications club at Craven Community College. Filmmakers conferences were held from 2003 to 2007 in the college auditorium and featured entries such as "Chicks 101," a romantic comedy written and produced by Winston-Salem State University professor Lovinder S. Gill, and "Pods," an hour-long comedy/drama by Havelock puppeteer Jay Tyson.
Now organized by community college alumni and New Bern-area filmmakers, the annual movie showcase has been renamed to emphasize its connection with historic New Bern, the sister city of Bern, Switzerland.
The 2008 Sister City Film Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10. Films will be shown in blocks between meal and stretch breaks.
To submit an entry, please mail a non-returnable copy of your film on DVD to the Sister City Film Festival, 2403-C Meadowbrooke Ave., New Bern, NC 28562. Entries should include the film's title, creators' contact information and a brief synopsis not to exceed 100 words for publication in the festival program.
For more information, call the festival hotline at (252) 638-4809 or e-mail newbernfilm@yahoo.com
