Easiest/most believable "magic" effects

Kinda vague, but I'm curious if anyone has any advice on magic tricks that are easier to achieve believably than others on screen?

Example, floating objects in locked off frames isn't bad and usually looks decent.

Currently in the writing stage and one of my characters is a witch. Going for the Harry Potter "wizard live among us" concept so I need to see her doing a few basic things to make her being a witch credible. I like writing stories around effects I can do, so any ideas on effects you've used would be helpful.

Thanks.

Ripple distort. I used it for a friends film in a festival and the effects got a lot of attention. Whether its for telepathy to explosions, it helps depending the setting you use with it. If you ever watch the show Charmed, its heavily overused in that show. Ha.

clone stamp tool. green screen stuff. Stock motion graphic overlays. And camera magic, place the guy in the shot in different areas doing different things, composite it together!
