Earthquake

Hey Guys, I've created a new user name, only because my production company isn't Whiteside Productions anymore.

This weekend, we are shooting a scene with an earthquake. I was curious if anyone had any experience doing this on set, NOT in post. I feel like the post option is too hoaky. There are only two shots; a girl sitting at a table when the quake starts, and cutting to a boy running down stairs. I feel like the table will be easier than the stair one, because we can shake the table. We can't really shake the stairs lol, so help me out guys!

Moving the camera itself will be much more realistic than in post b/c you have the actual lens, in camera motion blur, etc. all going on. Besides that and practical effects (moving things, stuff falling, etc.) thats all you can do really.

do some tests with someone shaking the camera operator while the camera operator tries to stay stable - it can be a good way to get non-overdone camera shake.

And have someone dropping a few bits of debris from above offscreen.

I think instead of shaking the shooter, try having someone have shake the sticks (assuming you're shooting on sticks).
