Dynamic microphones in filmmaking

I was wondering if dynamic mic's are used at all other than for one on one interviews?

Seems like they could be used effectively in noisy environments. My research tells me that there are several dynamic hyper-cardioids available. How would they work from a one or two foot distance?

Aside from the reporter's omni dynamics, the hyper/super cardioid dynamics like the MD441, Beta58 and other have a low sensitivity. I 'spose if folks speak loud, they could be used. Occasionally I'll see an SM58 type but it's rare. The MD46 is about the only H/H dynamic cardioid that's used much interview type work, but it ain't a hyper cardioid..

Generally not in production unless the mic is seen. Not very sensitive and generally heavier. ADR and Walla, SFX etc yes.

I keep one around but only for noisy environments. Filming an interview on the gun range, yes, I'd use a dynamic. Or if you're trying to do an interview in a club or at a concert or someplace where the background noise is so loud as to overdrive a different type of mic. And yes, you'll see it in the shot, you've got to get it close to get it to pick up enough signal.
