Hi!

Goal:

To make a scene with a stop motion character and real actors

Thoughts on how to:

*create the stop motion character using a green screen and capturing it in the correct angle as the "real" clip

*use the real clip as a background to the stop motion clip

questions:

Is this possible?

How can I achieve this with my DVX100B and FCP?

Is there a way to "blend" in the stop motion character in the background so that it doesn't look fake?

Do I have to capture the real clip with a tripod or could I use motiontracking to configure the stop motion character?

Hope this isn't to much

Best regards

Vincent

Watch jan svankmajer's Alice or Conspirators of Pleasure DVD's. Some of the craziest stop motion stuff i have seen. he does everything in camera on the set just like you would animate a doll.

To correctly scale it, ie. "get the correct angle," detirmine the scale of your model. 1/8? 1/16? Etc. Using the same focal length and horizontal angle as your live action scene, scale the height of your camera and distance to the same scale as your model. That is to say, if your model is 1/16 scale and the distance from your live model to the camera is 30 ft, then the distance from your scale model should be 1.875 ft. And, if your tripod is 5 ft. off the ground on your live set, it should be 1/16th of that on your scale set. Hope this helps.
