DVXuser Tai Helmet Fund

Jdanstan, your cat/apartment film is awesome. I loved it. :)
thanks.

Should mention that's not DVX footage. Was my old single chipper about 8 months before I had my DVX. and done mostly on iMovie as my then bootleg copy of FCP and soon to be replaced hardrive were mucho unstable.

jdanstan - Thanks for the photo and your suggestions. Registering anything is difficult here. Having the police do their job is the best way to get people to wear helmets. They have the money to buy them they just don't have anyone enforcing the laws. We had seatbelts for 30 years before the police started forcing us to wear them. And now it's uncomfortable if we don't wear them. We've seen the good they can do. The same can be done for helmets. Force them to wear them for a while and then they will see how much better their life is and they will decide to continue wearing them.

Thanks again, jdanstan.

UPDATE
Tomorrow we will have another Donation Ceremony at an All Girls College. (It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.) On Wednesday we will have another ceremony at an All Boys College. Not sure if I'll go to that one. :( j/k

100 helmets will be donated at each school. We have another 50 helmets extra which will be given to random students who need them (I'm approached everyday from people wanting helmets). This will be a total of 550 helmets given to Thai students.

During the ceremonies cards will be placed on all motorcycles that don't have helmets. The cards will say "Where's your helmet? Care about your life, friends life, and family."

Thank YOU for what YOU'RE DOING over there. Also, on a much less cosmically significant level, thank you for sharing your 360º panning effect with me. I just footage for my Zombie film with that technique yesterday and threw some of it together on location to make sure I was in the right ball park; it worked great!

I have said it before, but I say it again now: PK is a good egg.

PK as the Egginator

Congrats on people walking up and asking you for helmets, that's quite a sucess!!!!!

UPDATE
The donation ceremony went great! The audience laughed, cried, and learned a lot. And my pants didn't have any malfunctions. :) Here are some photos.

The event was well documented.

hfs_phase2-2.jpg

The police had an entertaining routine.

hfs_phase2-3.jpg

There was a good turn out.

hfs_phase2-4.jpg

Helmets were given to 100 students.

hfs_phase2-5.jpg

I'm only 5'10" but look at me. I'm HUGE!!!!

hfs_phase2-6.jpg

This wasn't a setup. They actually were wearing their helmets.

hfs_phase2-7.jpg

It was a nice surprise to see students actually wearing the helmets.

Tomorrow there is another ceremony at a Technical College. That will bring the total to 500 helmets. Another 50 are being given to random people. Thanks again to everyone who donated some of your hard earned money to this cause. It wouldn't have been possible without you and your generosity.

Thanks Isaac.

jdstan - :) I was thinking the same thing. I told all the boys they can trade with the girls if they don't want pink. But then I found out that most of the boys don't mind pink helmets. They don't care about "pink for girls, blue for boys". Although there were some boys who looked like they weren't happy to get a pink helmet. Some others looked really happy.

Yeah I wondered if gender identification with pink and blue was cross cultural or or not.
Also, in Asian/eastern clutures, personal embarrasment seems to be different. I studied an acting method called Suzuki (Japanese obviously) and the American masters teach it in a way that coddles the egocentric american actor, while the Japanese masters teach in an environment where the accomplished students sit in the audience and roll in the isles with laughter mocking the rookies. Its all seen as fun there and a part of the passage - admitting you know nothing and giving yourself over to the form, but here (amerca) the actor would quit your class and send you the therapy bill.

Maybe they had already decided to go katoey, anyway... ;-)

UPDATE
Had the last helmet ceremony today. The school didn't prepare a big event like the other schools did. Only students receiving helmets came. At the other schools hundreds of students came to listen to the speeches and to learn. So I was very dissappointed, but they invited me back to speak to the entire school in the near future.

Here's some more photos:

That makes 500 helmets donated to 5 different schools in Nong Khai, Thailand. The extra 50 helmets have already been given to other students at my school, people who work in my apartment building, and employees at my school (cleaning crew and cooks) who get paid only $75/mo (which is bad even for Thai standards). Unfortunately the demand was greater than the supply and I had to say "no" to dozens of people. Hopefully we can raise some more money :)

Everyone really appreciated the "farang" (foreigners) kindness. Thank you!

I like the one of the guy getting the post it note on his scooter.

Sux they didn't set up the presentation for the educational part of it.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Oh ... you pointed out your hugeness -- my GF told me about a show she worked on that toured there along with this 6'5" blonde, Grizzly Adams bearded, golden locks to the middle of his back, 300 pound good natured techie, and all these little kids kept following him around like WTF! Sooooo Viking and soooooo different than any other human being they'd seen in the flesh apparantly.

lol

jdanstan - :) Actually he's not "getting" the note he's "posting" the note. LOL I had some students go around doing that during the ceremony.

UPDATE
We made the news!!! Last month they aired a report on the three ceremonies. Yesterday they aired a news report about the event at the girls college (see photo). And just now they aired a report about the event at the boys college today (see video). Must have been a slow news day. :) The video isn't great because it was recorded off my tv using an old digital camera. But you can see PK and the helmets!
