DVXuser should implement the REP system!

So another forum I'm a part of, overclock.net has this thing called the REP system. Here's how it works:

When should I give out REP+ ?

It is a very simple concept.

If you have received useful help or information from a fellow member that has helped you in anyway and you wish to show them your appreciation you click on there REP+ button in thier profile and leave the appropriate comment and submit it. You may also REP the said member if you feel his contributions towards ANOTHER ( Not yourself ) member was helpful. When it comes to leaving a comment make sure that its to the point and nothing more.

It is that simple.

Why Should I give out REP+ to helpful/contributing members?

The REP system serves as sign to other members and points out the potentially helpful and trustworthy members on the forum. REP shows us that a member positively contributes to the forum and has the ability to help others within the community. We have a very varied member base, some members are better at one thing while others will be better at something else thus you will find some members will specifically help more in certain sections of the forum and on the other hand of the scale you will find members who have a wide knowledge and can help out in more than one section of the forums.

REP+ should be given out to helpful members as it is the only way you can really say ''Thankyou'' on a public scale and point out the positively contributing members....In the long run this can help many others on the forum also, you are not just simply REPPING the member but pointing out the member to others who potentially could do with help from that same member.

It's a small little button on the bottom left of each person's post that says REP+, you click it and put why you are REPPING them and add! Very simple, very effective... they also use it to weed out to Marketplace, making it so you need 40 REPs to be able to post a new For Sale/Wanted thread. Here's an image of how it works:

I think it'd be a great addition to DVXuser personally and encourages the helping each other out community feel... thoughts?

A good notion, but it seems laborious.

Also, some folks really know 3D and could rack up REPs advising others about polygons and such. However, those REP points could be incorrectly construed as helpful in a forum on say, Acting.

Just my 2¢.

I don't think an explanation of the rep system is necessary to the admin here. This forum was created with vBulletin software and has a "rep" system available. The fact it isn't employed probably speaks to a decision on its merits.

Yeah, there are a number of things available like this, like "Thanks" and so forth. We're not really diggin' on the idea at this time.

Not sure if you were kidding - but there is a "report post" function.
The exclamation point/yield sign looking icon under the avatar.

I'm not sure either.

For the sake of full "reputation emulation" we should just rate each other by a 5 star system. Now that would be interesting :D

It seems like another level of bureaucracy, and a meaningless one at that imo.
In fact, any site that has that, I immediatley envision a 'clique group' mentality and run for cover because it means
your being judged by other cliques. Reminds me of peer pressure, not freedom of expression.

How does that encourage people to help out?

People here help out enough now because they want to. No other motivation is needed nor warranted imo.

And if someone has good or bad rep points, what does that mean exactly, to me, in my or anyones area of interest?
Does he pay on time, work well on set, is a good writer or compositor, a good DOP, a good grip?
What does that rep status mean in the end? Maybe I don't respect the ones who gave him the good rep in the first place.
Maybe he's a great DOP but sucks as a director.
So my answer to that is it means nothing. And in fact I'll take it a step further and say it's a dangerous concept.

If you want a rep, earn it with good work and good work ethics with the people you work with around here.
Word of mouth will take care of the rest.

It doesn't matter if you piss someone off in the cafe by saying their last job SUCKED.
That's an individual POV from the poster. It's not a statement of fact.
But hopefully you should explain why and maybe convince them.
And it doesn't mean anything other than that and certainly wouldn't warrant a -10 entry into their rep score.

It's poo pooing pointless ( I swore to help prove my point). It means nothing of any relevance to anyone, imo.

Don't like me saying poo poo? Knock me down a few rep points then( or as in the case of another site, kick me out for life becuase of that shi*) cause I don't really give a poo pooing poo poo.
Besides, the rules here with warnings and boots are fine. This is theatre. Not grandma's house.

Alright? Cool.
My work is done here.

Well I'll just say that on the other forum that has that I don't see those problems there and I feel it adds there. It's an only positive system as well... anyway I understand what you are saying and can see where you're coming from.
