DVXUser Scripwriting Challenge

Get 'er done!

Get 'er done!

Hey everyone,

I got mine finished, just emailed it to you 500. I'm very keen on reading what everyone wrote as I'm sure I didn't follow the structure correctly, but hey that's what this exercise is for right?

cheers,

JP

Yes Im patiently waiting for the submissions to come up so I can read what eeveryone else did.

Well, it's midnight, and we only have 5 entries.

I have one more "promise to send tonight overnight" which I agreed to accept and add in.

So anyone who gets one to me overnight, I'll add it in the morning. email it to: avantgardecreatives at yahoo dot com.

I can post the link so you can see them. And we can figure out how to proceed in the morning.

Sorry, I just finished and cut and pasted into a reply. I didn't see how else to submit. Here's my generated thing:

OK, make that 6 entries :-)

CM, can you email that to me in script format?

avantgardecreatives at yahoo dot com

And then edit it out of your message. We're hoping to judge them anonymously.

OK, I'm posting the entries for voting, on a scale of 1 to 5, and for commenting.

Each thread will have 1 entry, and there are 6 entries.

Read each one, then vote and post your comments.

Hey, read through all the scripts, and voted this morning, great stuff everyone! I am sorry I couldn't get mine in... thing's piled up... hopefully for the next go around!

Great exercise!

Great exercise!

Hey 500,

This was a great exercise and thanks to all who have given me feedback, it's been really great. I hope we do another one of these soon.

cheers,

Since this is supposed to be anonomous, do you want the writers to vote and comment? Just wondering.

The writers can comment, but I was hoping to retain some degree of anonymity.

It appears the feedback is tricking in, not coming in a torrent. I think the voting closes tomorow, so everyone, including authors, should vote and comment.

You can vote for your own as well.

500lb this has been great on your part, i hope somehow in the future we can make it that votes cannot be cast without comment.(not sure how - but Id love to help out where I can if you wanted) Anyway I was a little suprised just now to see some people voted 1 on a few scripts, but more suprised there is no comment for this.

Seriously. If you voted say 3 or 4 and no comment well.... but I think at the extremes of 5 and 1 some kind of comment justifying it is really needed. Personally I feel deflated at this. Someone came along and dropped him as 1, deflating enough, and then didnt even have the courtesy to give some feedback and if........ But just my opinion. I can see that if there were say 15-20 entrants this could be a problem, as thats a lot of reading. But there were only 6 this first time.

Whoever wrote a script for this competition, took time and effort to do so. In some cases time they just dont have. And I guarantee every entrant did so with good faith that if did make the effort and if someone hated it they would get valuable feedback and learning out of it. And then in some cases differing opinions, but thats cool also.

Putting that aside its the first time and things will only get better.

Of those who participated... and those who didn't... do you feel it's worth having another round? Next time everyone will write to the same setup.

Why did we only get 6 entries? Was that a good turn out? Or should we have wanted more?

What suggestions does everyone have to make the next round better?

I think the polls will be closing tonight... so everyone be sure to get your votes in ASAP.

500lb, I think the set up needs to be a little broader:

Same title and genre and screentime and thats all. Such as are competitions like herofest and the picture competition. They use broad headings. The purpose was to create workable budget minded pieces, so I think that the overall specs should look something like this:

MUST DO:
TITLE
GENRE
SCREENTIME (should be 3 mins min and 5 mins max - so people can work within it)

Suggested
Budget concious
Anything else.

Anyway just my thoughts. I just think limiting people to things like 4 characters, no dialogue, POV character over 77 female :P could turn people away. Freedom within a broader boundary might produce better results.
