DVXUser PodCast

Probably a stupid idea but...

I just wanted to throw out the idea of having a DVXUser Podcast available for download. I think it could be cool to have Jarred, Barry G., John Hudson and everyone else in the frontline trenches do a few minute show with info and stories. I know there is a lot of info here in these forums but I've noticed it's a lot nicer to load up your mp3 player, kick back away from the computer and just chill listening to some cool **** and maybe learn a thing or two.

What does everyone else think?

Only in Edmonton would one even come up with an idea like that! You people have WAY too much time on your hands

Just kidding

Well that's enough TC emulation for one day

Not familliar with Podcasting myself, I like the idea though....The DVXuser show Hmmmmm!:)

"Hey, I'm mino. I think I'm so funny."

Well that's enough mino impersonating for one day. :cheesy:

I've never listened to podcasting, do enough people actually utilize it to make it worth doing?

Bollocks!

Well that was my first response

Then I humbled myself in the face of pure wisdom!

I regularly listen to podcasts as well. A dvxuser one would be awesome! Hey, how could it not be if it had a "Stupid threads of the Week" section hosted by John Hudson?

Interesting Barry. I believe apple may be coming out with an ipod video. Could be out sometime this fall. In iTunes you can already download video and watch them on your computer, it should be pretty easy for them to make videocasting with subscriptions.

I don't watch tv so podcasting is how i listen to the news (in addition to reading online).
There are some digital photography podcasts out there, but none that I would say are all that good.

If others get a chance you may want to check out podcasting through iTunes (i'm sure its pc friendly)

hmm.. this could be a good tool, you can carry around your ipod and watch Barry in action while doing test shots in the field and try to simulate his techniques on the spot w/o the need of tv/monitor/computer at hand.

I think videocasting is just starting to catch on too. The problem with that is that there just aren't enough affordable portable video players out there yet. Once it catches on, it'll be the shiznit like podcasting is now but it's just cool to shut down the senses and just listen once in awhile. If you haven't experienced a podcast, it's well worth it to give it a try. You won't look back.

The flash memory iRiver mp3 players are great. They are durable, compact, cheap (like $99 or so) and they have the ability to record a crisp, clean, high quality live signal directly to mp3 format. So say when Barry Green was at NAB or WEVA, he could have stuck his iRiver in his pocket, attached a lapel mic and walked around the floor giving us insight into what was going on and even live interviews. When he was done, he could just offload the mp3 file to a computer somewhere and email it to someone at dvxuser to post. done. It would be the next best thing to being at the convention itself. When the first footage of the HVX hits next month, think about how cool it would be to hear someone as they see it for the very first time and then be able to experience it firsthand like that almost within minutes or a few hours.

The same thing could work when say Jarred goes on a shoot, John needs to vent or anything else that would be educational. I think it could work out really great and there's no real cost or added effort involved since this site is already well established.

The iRiver is nice, I have a 10gig one. But I like my iPod, just as much.

You guys are missing the point of podcasting (thinking about video) or maybe not.... I listen to podcasts when I'm doing other stuff: riding a big, working out, taking the train (ok, I guess I could watch a video then), driving - you get the idea. I hope podcasting as it is remains, otherwise, I'll be SOL for all the stuff I use it for now.

Matt

I'm into photography as well and listen to podcasts when i'm shooting whatever. I'll listen to the news, reviews, or just switch to my music library when I feel like it. I don't commute much, so I don't really listen while driving, but it is nice to know I can for when I travel long distances.

Videocasting would of course require more attention and a situation where you are not too busy (driving, washing dishes, etc.)

But it could be cool tool for when you are out in the field or visiting relatives and have to get away from them, at least "virtually".

Again it could be an awesome tool. Even just to carry your own videos around and show your friends what you just made or get some critical feedback on the spot. Plug it into a tv for a bigger audience. Almost a dvd library of sorts. Instructional videos could be carried on them too.

I have yet to go over how this may benefit those in education especially university settings.

Pod Casting, Video Casting, BAH HUM-BUG!!! They are all just fads with a different name.

All I need are the voices in my head. They keep me informed on all that's going on.

THIS JUST IN: I've got a fever, ...and the only prescription, ...is more DVXuser.

A podcast would be great. For those who think it's complicated, it's just an mp3 file of someone talking ala radio talkshow about a certain subject.

I can translate what Jarred said:

Kai, you are absolutley right! Podcasting is definitely cool! Seeing as it can be quite beneficial to dvxuser, that there seems to be a popular demand and it's quite simple to implement, we will be hooking that up pronto!
