DVXuser is going to get me FIRED!

I don't know about anyone else here, but I am absolutely ADDICTED to this forum. I read it off and on all day, nearly everyday. I jones for more knowledge and insights that I can only get here. Right now, I should be working. I have been scanning through the posts (the same ones I read late last night) for new nuggets of information.

Let's face it. You guys are going to get me fired.

Rick

I agree with you rlm, as a type this my boss is walking by me. But hell, even though this stinkin job pays the bills, this site has enough knowledge where I can just quit my job and rule the world someday. Unfortunately the pile of bills on my coffe table reminds me I can't. I do agree this site is like an addictive drug, the only difference is I don't have to stand on the corner to get it.

-Hi my name is Capitalp and I'm a dvxuserholic-

All I know is that it gets easier to hide after a while. My big warning signs that I had an addiction to this site were: 1. setting my tool bar to auto hide so it doesn't look like I have anything pulled up 2. putting a mirror on my computer monitor so when someone walks up behind me I can see them approach 3. copy and pasting articles into emails and reading them so it looks like I'm reading an email from a client, but the real warning sign that told me I had a problem was going home at night and practicing my ALT-TAB speed skills...

I always know I was really productive at work when I only have 1 or 2 posts that day.

Yankee, 1 and 2 are excellent tips. Another thing, MSWord is a useful tool. I just act like I'm writing a company letter to a client, then spell check that thing, copy, and yup, you guessed it, it's being paste in a post.

This site is the second best thing created since sliced bread, then again slice bread can't really help me create a film from beginning to end....

Having been ensconced in corporate management here in Charlotte, I can tell you that you're not fooling anybody with 2, and they're more likely to be suspicious of you for having it there. (Also, the moving the monitor so that it's turned away from the cube opening? Another transparent one.)

However, 1 and 3 are successful tactics.

Firefox has "fonts and colors" preferences that allow you to override the DVXuser colors. You can also disable images. Pretty soon you're reading black on white, which must be work-related, right?

Mac users: Ever notice how comfortably your pinky rests on the apple key while your index finger lies waiting on the H? (shortcut for hiding an application)

Well, better get some work done today so my job doesn't get sent overseas. I have no desire to move that far away. ;)

So what does it say about the company I work for when they provide mirrors to their employees to place on their monitors?

I think the biggest give away that you're doing something that you shouldn't at work though is turning around everytime you hear someone walking past your cube to see who it is. Hard habit to break, but training your ears to hear people walking up is effective.

David, I can't believe you don't like my mirror trick. I know it's far from perfect, but actually making me more of a guilty person? All the women here have them for legit reasons, so maybe people think I'm a little feminine.

This is great. For a while I thought that I was alone. Now I know we all have a problem. Hi, I'm Rick Meyer, and I am a DVXuser addict.

I work at home, which is a bigger problem. I have deadlines. My wife comes home, we hang out for a bhit, then I tell her I have to finish up some edits, she asks what the hell do you do all day. Thank god I do not have any games on my computer. There would be no need to get dressed during the edit days.

i already got two warnings that im using to much bandwidth and slowdown the network (downloading all the videos on this forum..haha)

Its good to know how to renew/release ;)

I would have thought the same thing, but a coworker of mine parlayed the old turned away monitor into two raises. Meanwhile, my monitor faces out and I'm struggling :(

I just did the auto-hide task bar just before reading this post! too funny.
I always have the alt-tab or Window-D at the ready.

I just recently moved to a new high traffic area and I need a mirror.
Usually I just pull the George Costanza and look angry all the time.

I'm telling ya'll the copying the long posts or review articles into an email is pure gold. I have had my campus director walk right into my cube, stare at my screen, and not notice. For forum reading it doesn't paste just right though...

Im on this site like 80% of the time im at work, My boss see's me on this site almost everyday but he doesn't mind. He looks for naked red headed girls so its al good

My old lead told me: I don't care what you do, as long as your work is done. !

My new lead just sent me a whole pile of things to take care of. :thumbdown

So I haven't been on the whole day, until everything gets quiet... yeah. I hate this place anyway - pretty mature thing to say for my age. At least if I get fired I will no longer have 'money' as an excuse for not spending more time making movies.
