This one is a real pest as when I appear I'm not logged in - two locations, two different providers, safari, Chrome and Firefox all need me to click a few times and change pages to show I'm in. The new posts link works on this one - another refuses to display anything other than topics ten to twenty years old as 'active topics' when they are not, and trending topics produces a few topics that never get added to. I started a new one today and after 8 hours, no views, let alone responses.

You have to stay logged out and choose "Today's Posts" to see an accurate, realtime updated list as threads are made and responded to.

I'm logged in on one browser and logged out on another to navigate the site like it used to be.

To be fair, here are some updates I like:

- The Today's Posts neon green "post-it" icons are visually appealing and disappear and turn gray when you've read a thread...I think this is great, but it only properly works when logged out!!!
- The formatting of text is much easier.
- The site is faster and more responsive (at least for me).

At the end of the day, I'm a reasonable person and adapt quickly and if I had to choose one change...please fix the format of new posts.

This should be at the top of your list, #1, because without it people are unaware of content updates and new content which = less engagement. Because when anyone who is logged in chooses New Topics, they don't see all of the multiple new threads or replies, and see only whatever random ones New Topics decides on.

"Today's Posts" should be visible in the same format when logged in.

No New Topics or Latest Activity. Delete that, if possible.

Most of the forums that I'm on have "updated" to new/newer forum software within the last 12-18 months and most are this same flat look, that all look like run-on sentences. Just a box full of text on top of another box of text.

The tweaking that Brent has done(mostly the colors) has made DVX much more useable than it was the first few days after the relaunch and I appreciate it. I know the cow is out of the barn, and I'm not trying to be disparaging towards the hard work that has gone on and continues, but I will also chime-in with the others and say that the old, previous look of DVX was damn near perfect. It was probably THE best looking forum on the internet.

I also understand that this is the software that we are probably locked into, now, but some more tweaks I'd like to see, if possible:
1) List of page numbers for individual threads without having to open the actual thread or click the "last post" icon, so that you can navigate directly to a thread page.

2) Separate the main page boxes, forum/topic page boxes and individual post boxes back sections and bring the text a little closer back to center/move the text farther away from the edges of the frame/screen. I think this attributes to what makes these new forum layouts seem harder to read(along with the larger type face and plainer font). The trend of having text go literally edge-to-edge is one I've been seeing for several years now on some news sites and the like and it's very hard to read. It's not anywhere close to the bad here, but it is spread out more.

3) Add voting back

One of the nice things that I DO like about the new software, I can finally embed video now. I was never able to on the old site.

And ironically, I just checked-in on another site that I'm a member on(well over 1 million members), that updated their software last year, and at the top of the forum page was a survey about the forum software, so it appears that DVXUsers aren't the only ones that may have issues with their forums.

Just wondering, did dvxuser ever create a Beta test site so users could test and comment on the new software version?

If you run a forum, any changes are risky, because people like stability and even forget the little annoyances. New members come along expecting things and they are often vocal and encourage change. The software providers also convince owners that the new modules on the new system are wonderful and offer enhanced CMS - one of my other forums had an owner blown away my Content Management - we have bogs, FAQs, other non-reply sections, news, etc etc and he simply forgot to ask if people don't want them. I tried talking to him - he got upset we didn't;t all love his new expensive, time consuming and beautiful forum. He spent hours retrieving 20 years of posts and moving them over and of course every one brings it up as a new post. So many times I saw a new post, went to add a helpful answer and saw the date 2004. Some contributors were dead, others embarrassed by the resurrection of posts they made as big-headed teenagers and now they have good jobs and kids. A few might well now me Olympic Games designers and let's hope nobody dredges up a twenty year old post they made as a spotty teenager. I found one of my posts from when I was in a totally different job! I've worked for myself now since 2004. I don't blame the owners for wanting to run updated software and have better behind the scenes systems and just have a current platform, but the simple truth is we liked the look and feel of the old one. Eventually we'll either come around or leave. A shame nobody thought to ask what people really liked and disliked before the job was done. Individually, we're all transients - we come and go, but trends are important. Individually, we're just nuisances. My work means I've always had a forum presence. Looking at my favourites bar - it's changed a lot in just a few months as many forums are doing exactly the same thing. Getting modern, for no real benefit to the current user base, just the new users who want blogs and fancier graphics and stuff. This one is a pain on my MacBook on batteries. I have to turn the brightness up and the batteries go flat quicker. Not just this forum - these new colour schemes seem almost standard. No idea why!
