DVX30fps differences w/ DV29.97fps; sync prob

Hey there--

I am going to be shooting a concert--I have 3 DVX100As, and 2 additional sub-par Mini-DV cams that will be running at the standard 29.97 DV speed--is that correct? The DVX can shoot at 30fps---so is 30fps close enough to 29.97fps--or will that 3/100th difference be a world of problems in the post messing up a 5 cam sync? I believe running on an Avid----no money to fix problems in post.

Also--how much syncing is necessary to shoot a concert?

It would be nice to run the digisyncslate--but that would mess up the vibe of the concert--my crew is secondary to the perfomance at best.

I am planning on just having everyone in position and then hitting record and then not stopping for any reason--the show only runs 40 minutes--so there will be no need to switch tapes---will this work???---my boss says it will work with no slates and functioning the DVXs at 30p to match the regular MiniDVDigVideo speeds---

It is a fact that 24p will not be suitable for the post and surely not compatible with a 30fps or 29.97fps needed at the post-house.

Another party is taking care of a multi-track recording--pro.

Shooting at the METRO in Chicago.

HELP.

Thanks for your time--

i don't know about avid but i'm pretty sure final cut pro and vegas 4 both take care of that slip problem

the DVX's 30P mode is actually 29.97P...they just call it 30P for simplicity.

Just like how the 24P mode is actually 23.98P...it just makes things sound cleaner.

Other than from an aesthetic point of view (the 30P footage will look different from your 60i footage) it'll be fine to intercut, you'll have no problems whatsoever in post...it's all transfered to NTSC on the tape.

-On a side note....if you shoot in 24P standard, it'll be perfectly fine to cut together with the 60i AND 30P footage. It'll look different, obviously, but the video itself is all 60i in the end. Just edit it all in a 60i timeline and you'll be fine!
