CAMCORDERS: DVX100P error message

Hello everyone,

I recently was gifted a DVX100P from a friend. I know these cameras are outdated but they just bring so much nostalgia to me from my skateboarding days.

The camera powers on and displays an image for about 3-5 seconds and then the screen goes blue and says "Auto Off Unloading Lock", then the camera shuts down. From my research, seems to be something wrong with the tape mechanism. I tried inserting a tape but nothing.

I don't plan on using tapes with this camera, I have a tapeless device that records straight to the device. All I need is for the LCD to produce an image and I can record on the tapeless device. Any ideas how to fix or bypass this issue? Appreciate any input! Thanks.

Is your battery full power?

I remember getting this error but I just can't remember what the fix was

That was like 2006

It was an easy fix I just honestly can't remember what it was. 🤦‍♂️

Maybe check this thread from a few years back and see if that helps:

So you checked the menu settings & tape lock/tab and nothing?

Have you tried the camera with AC power?

This is what I tried " I changed the default setting of "POWEROFF" to "STBY" and the camera no longer shuts off automatically." but it did not work. I've tried with a tape and without a tape. No luck either.

And it's challenging to change the settings, because I only have a very small time frame before the menu and image disappears when the blue screen and the error message pop up. Then it essentially bricks the camcorder and I am unable to do anything other than take out the battery to turn it off.

I will most likely have to send it to Video Electronics who I know still service these old 3ccd camcorders.
