DVX100B settings to use for an external mic

I just purchased a Panasonic AG-MC200G Super-directional microphone for my DVX100B. This may sound lame when read but here goes: I cannot figure out how to completely shut off the camera’s internal mic so that only the new external one works.
1) The external mic is plugged into the input 1 (3pin) XLR jack.
2) The input 1 switch on the front of the camera is set to mic, not line.
3) The input 1 Mic Power (+48V) is set to on.
4) The CH1 Select switch is set to input 1, not INT (L).
5) The CH2 Select switch is set to INT (R) which I assume is where it belongs since I am not using the input 2 (3pin) XLR jack. Yet, when I change this switch to input 2, the internal mic is at this point off, but I only get the left channel of stereo from the external mic which is on.

There are no controls on the mic itself.

So, how do I get both left and right stereo channels using the external, camera-mounted mic with the internal mic completely off? Additionally, if this is not the forum for this question, please advise as to where I would most likely find an answer.

Thanks to everyone and anyone.

Only one channel

Only one channel

I'm assuming that if I'm monitoring the sound with headphones, as I am, and I hear only from one side, doesn't that mean the finished project will have only one channel or sound output from one speaker instead of both?

I've been informed by Calumet Photographic in Hollywood (I was just over there checking out the new Zylight for which they had no battery or ac adapter so that was a waste of time) that the external mic for the DVX records only in mono, one channel. I was also told if I wanted true stereo, I would have to add an additional mic. I am glad I brought the camera with me so we could both agree there is no place to put a second mic. Plug one in, yes. But then what. I shoot on the run, no tripod, grips, helpers, but from time to time, hecklers. The sample footage captured to FCP did load with two tracks: two mono tracks, but two nonetheless. Someone please tell me there is a way to get true stereo from this $350 wonder.

Plug the mic in channel two, not channel one. Then set both inputs to channel 2.

Almost all mics are mono, there are very few stereo shotguns out there.

And yes, if you're monitoring the audio and hear it on only one channel, that's what it'll have in the finished product unless you mix the audio in post.

Dear Barry, I cannot thank you enough. I changed the settings, etc. as per your suggestion and it worked. Also, thanks for the info on mics. I have a lot to learn but the time to do it. I am grateful this forum exists. The information from those who use this equipment is infinitely more accurate and valuable than from those who just sell it. Thanks again.

There will be a stained glass window in the video museum with Barry's image on it. I admire your never ending patience and willingness to help others Barry!
